Actor Mailings: a how-to video

Actor Mailings to casting directors and talent agents
(The video may take a few moments for the video to load.)

Actor Mailings are just one of the many things that many new actors need to understand and do better! It's that simple! That is one of the reasons why I take so much time to cover this subject in The Acting Career Quick Start Home-Study Course.

First and foremost it’s important to know that if you really want to get noticed by casting directors and talent agents, that you will do much better at it if you have a strategy. A strategy is more than just a list of things to do. It determines how you want to go about how you want to achieve that goal. For many new actors, aspiring actors and even actors who have been trying desperately to get an agent interview for example or get a casting director’s attention for an audition, unfortunately it all comes down to getting headshots taken (usually of very poor quality), slapping together a resume and writing a brief cover letter. For them that’s what actor mailings and actor marketing consist of. They then put those things into an envelope and send it out to a talent agent they heard about. What happens next then is mind boggling. Absolutely nothing!

Nothing happens. The agent doesn’t call the actor. The actor is hoping the agent calls, but no. Nothing happens. The actor sits around and waits for the phone to ring, but it doesn’t. Now what? Back to square one. Back on the internet to look for the name and address of another agent. They try the same approach again. It doesn’t work. The attempts at doing these kind of actor mailings become less and less frequent, until one day, the actor gives up on his/her dream. They end up never getting an agent and never getting called in for an audition directly by a casting director.

When you then talk to an actor about how to do actor mailings properly and in such a way that they will increase your chances of getting called in, they’re skeptical and will often tell you, “I’ve already tried that and it didn’t work!”

Here’s what I have to say about that. Actor mailings do work, IF you do them correctly. Don’t misunderstand me, they are not the only way to get a talent agent. It is one way and is part of a 16-Step process that I teach in The Acting Career Quick Start Home-Study Course. If you go back and watch the video here at the top of the page, you will see how I walk you step-by-step through the part of the process that has to do with actually stuffing the envelopes and mailing them out. If you have been trying fruitlessly to use this method and you are not getting anywhere, then watch this video now! It could be the best 15 minutes you spent on your acting career to date!
